Your questions, answered.
What is a Full Stack Developer?
A full stack developer is a person who has the skills to work on both the front-end and back-end portions of a web application, meaning they have the skills to do back-end coding work and front-end design work.
How much time outside of the classroom should I expect to dedicate to the program?
The short answer is it depends on your level of experience. In our current program, learners who have little to no coding and development experience who are successful are spending 10-20 hours outside the classroom each week working on program materials. More experienced developers are not requiring as much time but are taking additional time to build new skills. Expect this program to be a full-time commitment for the full six months.
What programming languages and frameworks do you cover in the Full Stack Developer Program?
JavaScript, React, HTML, CSS, ExpressJS, NodeJS, MongoDB are the core languages we teach in the program, and there is opportunity for you to dive into others as you have the time and energy to do so.
How successful have InceptionU graduates been in finding employment?
We take great pride in the employment rates achieved by our graduates in the Full Stack Developer program. The results we've achieved are as follows:
- Within 3 months of program completion, 53% of learners secure employment through our Full Stack Developer program.
- Within 9 months of program completion, an impressive 73% of learners from the Full Stack Developer program find employment.
What kind of time commitment is required? How many hours and days will I need to commit?
We provide a number of different programs that serve a variety of schedules. For example, some learning experiences can be done on evenings and weekends. Time commitments differ from one program to the next. But given the program lengths are short, it’s a temporary commitment with the potential for a lifelong career change.
Will I be required to do any preparation prior to the start of the program?
Depending on your level of technical experience coming into the program, some online preparation may be required. During the application process we will provide additional information on how to prepare.
What opportunities will I have to build connections with industry?
Throughout the program we invite professionals from industry to deliver lunch and learn sessions. Our contacts in industry are invited to the final Demo Day at the end of the program. A comprehensive list of meet-ups related to the program will be available for you to explore. Some companies reach out to us to fill open positions. In these instances we can provide direct connections to those opportunities.
Will I get a certification?
No. InceptionU emphasizes genuine learning over certification. We can confidently
tell you that our programs will lead to meaningful career opportunities. InceptionU
will provide you with the technical skills and metaskills, like critical thinking and
design thinking, that you need to succeed in your future career.
Do you assist me in securing employment?

Your journey to finding employment is a joint effort, and we will equip you with the necessary tools and guidance to excel. Our support includes:

What is InceptionU’s philosophy on learning?
At InceptionU, we believe that humans learn by doing. We've built experiential programs that are active, discovery driven, immersive, to build core competencies (both technical and non-technical) and challenging all in a supportive environment.
What do you mean when you mention metaskills? What are they and how will they help me?
Tools don't solve problems. People do. Innovation and building better is a people-
centric activity. This means that our ability to use our metaskills - critical thinking,
systems thinking, creative thinking, computational thinking, design and
collaborative skills - are timeless competencies that are central to our future
success. And to be clear, this is not just your career; these cognitive and
interpersonal skills have impacts across all aspects of your life.
Does InceptionU provide networking opportunities?
Yes! InceptionU connects our learners in a number of ways. Our alumni bring real-
life experience from a variety of industries, our programs and curriculum are often
based on real-world examples, and we maintain strong relationships with our
business partners providing a two-way exchange of talent ideas, and challenges/
opportunities.
Is InceptionU an accredited education institution?
Fortunately, we are not! This allows us to be agile and adaptable with our curriculum as technology evolves. We are sponsored by the Hunter Family Foundation and we work closely with Calgary Economic Development (CED) and Rainforest Alberta.
